Parahyangan University
Both academic teaching and research conducted at UNPAR continue to set national and international standards in terms of quality and excellence. Operating from a friendly and dynamic campus, UNPAR has establised strong links with the goverment and industry and has developed an extensive network of international universities, which has strengthened our internationall reputation. Students are encouraged to learn in atmosphere of openness, constructive discussion and mutual support, so that everyone involved may benefit from the exchange of innovative ideas and experiences. HistoryThe history of Parahyangan University goes way back to January 17th 1955, when the late Bishop of Bandung P.M.Arntz, in cooperation with the Bishop of Bogor, Prof.Dr.N.J.C.Geise, established a Trade Academy named Akademi Perniagaan. Later, in August 1955, the academy was developed into Parahyangan Socio-Economic Institution of Higher Learning (now Faculty of Economy). Then in September 1955, the Faculty of Law was established, and the name changed to the Parahyangan Catholic Institution of Higher Learning. The institution continued to develop its ability and range of study options. In 1960, Faculty of Engineering was established with two departments, Architecture and Civil Engineering, followed by Faculty of Social and Political Science in 1961. In the same year the Indonesian Government established a law regarding Institution of Higher Learning in Indonesia, thus the name “Parahyangan Catholic Institution of Higher Learning” changed in to “Parahyangan Catholic University” and gained government accreditation in 1962. Now Parahyangan Catholic University has seven faculties with more than 16 departments, all of which have received government accreditation as one of the finest university in Indonesia. With more than 10,000 students who come from various cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds, each year UNPAR graduates more than 2,000 professionals in various fields. Most of its alumni now work in national and world famous companies and in governmental departments. FacilitiesAll educational activities for UNPAR students are conducted on its main campus at Jl. Ciumbuleuit No. 94 in Bandung. The campus is equipped with complete educational facilities particularly designed to provide a pleasant atmosphere for the learning process in accordance with semester credit system. The campus is located in the north of Bandung on 4.5 hectares of land in a asafe and comfortable area. It is about a 30 minute trip on public transport from the city centre. Internet Connection Library UNPAR’s Library is developing into a knowledge center to support the learning process of students and lecturers. The library’s computerized management is continuously developed to serve the lecturers and students. It has an automatic lending service, and a reliable and complete Collection Information System that is accessible through UNPAR’s computer network. |
