Purposes of the Program
This program is created
- to help new ACICIS students adjust to their new surroundings
- to create a welcoming environment for the newly arrived ACICIS students.
- to extend the opportunity to IP students to make friends and learn about other cultures
- to strengthen a sense of community
What is a Buddy?
A 'Buddy' is a primary contact person who provides information and guidance to someone who is unfamiliar with their new surroundings. Each new ACICIS student will be matched with an IP student buddy volunteers.
Who can be a Buddy?
IP students with relative experience or willingness and commitment to help to provide support for an ACICIS student for the duration of a semester can be ‘Buddies’.
An IP Buddy has certain rights as well as certain responsibilities.
What are Buddy rights?
- To receive pre-buddy briefing for the position.
- To be provided guidance, motivation and on-going support.
- To have any questions, concerns or suggestions heard and addressed by IP management.
- To be kept informed of Buddy Program group events.
What are Buddy responsibilities?
- To understand and respect the Buddy Program’s purposes.
- To assist the ACICIS students fully during the orientation program, and provide them with support until they finish their study (one semester). The activities might include:
- helping them with accommodation such as finding a boarding house (kos), identifying transportation facilities, etc
- showing the students around campus and explanation
- familiarizing the students with the academic and administration activities at the IP and FE UII
- introducing students to IP program, its activities, organization, etc.
- familiarizing the students with Yogyakarta to find out what their interests are (sport, culture, art)
- To be sincere in the offer of services and believe in the value of volunteering.
- To attend the Buddy Connections event, such as check point meetings (that will be held twice in a semester).
- To contact your buddies via email or phone at least once a week & meet with your buddies at least once a week.
- To refer your buddies to the IP Management for assistance and support.
- To contact the IP Management if you have any concerns about your buddies.
- To inform the ACICIS student of changes to academic and administrative information that you are aware of e.g. if there are changes to the academic calendar, etc.
ACICIS students who are attending their first/ second semester of their study at the IP also have certain rights as well as responsibilities.
What are the ACICIS students’ rights?
- To be matched with an IP buddy

- To be kept informed of Buddy Program group events, such as check point meetings.
What are the ACICIS students’ responsibilities?
- To understand and respect the Buddy Program’s purposes
- To attend the Buddy connection events
- To respond when your buddy contacts you, and meet with your buddy at least once a week
- To ask your buddy for help when you have questions
- To contact the IP Management if you have any concerns about your IP buddy.
