Prof Edy Suandi Hamid, PhD, M. Ec
Subject: Indonesian Economy
Edy Suandi Hamid is a graduate from the University of Gadjah Mada (UGM). Both
his undergraduate and postgraduate study were completed at UGM and focused particularly
on the Indonesian Economy. He is one of the senior lecturers at the Faculty
of Economics, UII and is often invited to be a keynote speaker at national and
international seminars about the Indonesian Economy. Many of his articles have
been published by local and national newspapers such as Kedaulatan Rakyat and
Republika, including in a recent edition that focused on the Indonesia Economy
and Government Economy Policy. He regularly conducts research in economics in
institutes such as LIPI (Indonesian Institute of Science), The Research Center
for rural and regional Development at UGM and at the Research Center for Pancasila
Economics Studies, UGM. He has previously served in several senior positions
in the Faculty of Economics (FE), UII, including as Dean of FE, UII (1993-1995),
vice-dean FE and as deputy chairman of the Institute of Professional Staff Development.
Priyonggo
Suseno, Drs., M.Sc
Subject: Islamic Economics
Priyonggo Suseno completed his masters degree at Loughborough University, United
Kingdom with his major focus being the study of Islamic Economics, Banking and
Finance. He is a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, UII. His main interests
include Islamic economics, Microeconomics, Industrial Economics, and Elementary
Econometrics. Currently, he is serving as the director of the Centre for Islamic
Economics and Development Studies, Universitas Islam Indonesia. In this position,
his main responsibilities are to conduct research in Islamic Economics and finance,
as well as providing public consultation on Islamic Industries and Finance Institutions
(Baitul Maal wa Tamwil). In addition to academic teaching, he is currently conducting
several research projects including: Monitoring and Evaluation of the Financial
and Syariah Performance of Small-Scale Islamic Financial Institution, BMT, in
Yogyakarta (2000), Regional Development Model: an Application of Input-Output
Model in Indonesia (2000). He has several academic publications that have been
published in the University's journal including "The trade off between Efficiency
and Welfare Objectives in the Crude Palm Oil Policy in Indonesia", " Social
and Economic Impacts of off-farm working hours on farmers' Welfare, case Study:
farming and Home Industry Based Villages at Magelang, Indonesia". He is currently
working on a project to write an Islamic Economics textbook in collaboration
with Bank Indonesia (BI). This book will be used as a reference for undergraduate
students who study Islamic Economics both in Indonesia and internationally.
Drs. Muhammad Akhyar Adnan, B.Sc., MBA., Ph.D
Subject: Accounting for Islamic Banking
Akhyar Adnan is currently serving as Vice-Rector for collaboration affairs,
Universitas Islam Indonesia. His education background is in accountancy, specialising
in the Islamic economics system, Islamic banking, and bank Syariah. He is an
academician and expert in Syariah banking in Indonesia, and often invited to
be a keynote speaker at national and international seminars. Previously, he
has held several managerial positions at the Universitas Islam Indonesia, including
as director of the International Program, Faculty of Economics, UII (1996-2002),
Director of the doctoral program in Economics, postgraduate program, UII (2000-2002).
Both his masters and PhD program were completed at the Wollongong University
in Australia. His completed research projects include: The implication of cash
and accrual basis approach toward the behavior of Islamic bank management and
the customers (2002), The perception and the practice of zakah among the lecturers
of secular and Islamic tertiary education (2002), Study on factors influencing
performance of the best Baitul Maal wat Tamwil in Indonesia (2000).
M. Wildan, Drs., MA
Subject: Islamic thought and Civilization
M. Wildan completed his undergraduate studies with a major in Islamic Studies
in Jogjakarta. He completed his masters' degree at Leiden University in the
Netherlands. He is currently teaching at the Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII)
and the State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Yogyakarta. He actively participates
in several mass organizations and currently serves as a board member of Muhammadiyah
Youth of Yogyakarta. He currently writes and edits articles for Al-Jamiah, the
journal of Islamic Studies. Several of his academic works include:

- Muslims and Politics in The New Order: the Response of Islamic Organizations
to the Politics of the New Order (journal).

Abdul Ghoffar, Drs., MBA
Subject: Islamic Business Ethics
Abdul Ghoffar holds a masters degree in Business Administration, from the University
of Abertay, Dundee, Scotland, United Kingdom. He currently holds several positions,
including as lecturer at the Faculty of Economics, UII as well as the director
of the Institute for Resource Development 'BUMI MADANI' Yogyakarta. He has participated
in several international education and training programs including a management
Course (3 months) at the University of Dundee (2000), Joint seminar between
the School of Business University of Abertay Dundee and the school of Business
San Diego state University in San Diego, California, USA (2001).
Nurhadi, Drs., MA
Subject: Islamic Leadership
After completing his undergraduate degree at the State Institute of Islamic
Studies (IAIN) Yogyakarta, Nurhadi completed his masters degree in Islamic Studies
at Leiden University in the Netherlands. He now teaches at Universitas Islam
Indonesia and the State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Yogyakarta. He is
currently serving as the secretary of the Center for Developing Islamic Education
(CDIE), Tarbiyah Faculty, State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Yogyakarta.
Muyanja Ssenyonga, J.Z., Ph.D.
Subject: Development Economics and Advanced Development Economics
Muyanja Ssenyonga is teaching Development Economics at the International Program,
Faculty of Economics, UII. His previous teaching experience was in Mbale University,
Uganda (1992). In addition to teaching, he is currently a researcher at the
Center for Asia and Pacific Studies, Gadjah Mada University. His contribution
to academic research in Indonesia is mainly in the field of Indonesian Economic
Development and he has produced several academic papers including "An Evaluation
of the Contribution of Bank Credit toward the Performance of the Agricultural
sector in Indonesia", " An analysis of the Performance of bank Central Asia
(1991-1995), and "An analysis of the relationship between Corporate Control
and bank efficiency in Indonesia".
Rebecca Meckelburg, BA
Subject: Management Communication in International and Cross-Cultural Contexts
Subject: Economics for Natural Resources and the Environment.
Rebecca Meckelburg currently holds the position of Manager, International Program
Development, Faculty of Economics, Universitas Islam Indonesia. She is also
a lecturer in Economics and Management at the International Program, Universitas
Islam Indonesia. She is a Bachelors graduate in Political science and Indonesian
studies from the Flinders University and in July 2003 successfully completed
a research project at the University of Malang, East Java on "the conditions
of life of rural communities in the era of globalisation" in Temanggung, Central
Java. Prior to working at the UII she held senior positions in the Australian
Public Service in the area of Health Management, Legal rights of people with
disabilities and design planning of Information Systems for health services.
Her special field of interest and teaching is economic globalisation and its
impact on rural communities in Indonesia and business management communication
in cross-cultural contexts.
Key staff of the International Program and Faculty of Economics UII
Suwarsono SE,. M,A
Dean of Faculty of Economics
Suwarsono, SE, MA is currently serving as the dean of Faculty of Economics,
Universitas Islam Indonesia. After finishing his undergraduate study at the
Faculty of Economics, UII in 1981, he completed his master degree at The University
of Hawaii in 1987, USA in the department of sociology. He has in participated
in several international short courses including at the Pacific Asian Management
Institute in 1990 and at the Boston Consulting Group in 1997. He has conducted
research in the field of management and marketing, in areas such as The Tobacco
Industry in Indonesia, Yogyakarta (1996), The Competition Strategy of Astra
Motor (1996), The Property Industry in Jakarta (1996) and PT. Indofood Sukses
Makmur (1996). He has written several books and publications as references for

Dr. Asmai Ishak, PhD, M.Bus
Director, International Program
Dr Asmai Ishak, the Director of International Program, Faculty of Economics,
Universitas Islam Indonesia, completed his masters and PhD at Curtin University,
Australia. He has served in various senior positions both in the Faculty and
the University. He held the position of Vice Dean for Students Affairs in the
Faculty for the period of 1990-1995. He then served as Chairman of the Human
Resources Division of the University for the period of 1995-1997. Dr. Asmai
Ishak has conducted several research projects in the field of Management. Among
others, he has published and presented his research on "Marketing Strategy Implementation
in Small and Medium Enterprises for the Multicultural Marketing Conference,
Hongkong in 2000.
Drs. Sahabudin Sidiq, MA
Vice Director for Academic Affairs
Drs. Sahabudin Sidiq, MA holds a masters degree from the Western Michigan University,
USA in the field of Economics. Prior to serving as the Vice Director for Academic
Affairs at the International Program FE UII, he was the former Chairman of the
Economics Study Program at FE-UII for the period 1995-1998 and Secretary of
Centre for Economics Study and Development for the period of 1998-1999. He has
conducted several research projects in Economics and written several journals
articles on Economics.
Dra. Yuni Nustini, MAFIS
Vice Director for Finance
After earning a MAFIS in Finance and Accounting from the School of Business,
Cleveland State University, USA in 1994, Dra. Yuni Nustini, MAFIS, has held
several senior positions in the Accounting Department of the Faculty of Economics,
UII. In 1994-1995, she was the secretary of the Accounting Study Program. She
then held the position of manager of the Centre for Accounting Study and Development
at the Faculty of Economics in 1995-1998. She was appointed as the Head of the
Accounting Department in 1998-2001. Since 2001 she has served as the Vice-Director
financial affairs at the International Program, Faculty of Economics. In her
academic work, she has contributed greatly to developments in her specialty
field of Accounting. She has completed several research projects in Accounting,
including, "Dupont Analysis of An IT Enabled Competitive Advantage: A Comparative
study between companies' lead in their E-Business Practices and Companies that
have top financial performance."
Rebecca Meckelburg, BA
Manager, International Program Development
Rebecca Meckelburg currently holds the position of Manager, International Program
Development, Faculty of Economics, Universitas Islam Indonesia. She is also
a lecturer in Economics and Management at the International Program, Universitas
Islam Indonesia. She is a Bachelors graduate in Political science and Indonesian
studies from the Flinders University. In July 2003 she successfully completed
a research project at the University of Malang, East Java on "the conditions

Sigit Aris P, SS, M.Hum
International Program Development
Sigit Aris is currently a member of the program development team at the International
Program, Faculty of Economics UII. Some of his responsibilities include: teaching
English and developing the International Program's English proficiency program,
coordinator and liaison officer for student transfer to Wollongong University,
Australia, supervising the students' activities at International Program, FE-UII.
He will be a principal contact and administrative support person for International
students studying at the International Program. His academic background and
undergraduate program is in English literature. He completed his graduate studies
program in American Studies at Universitas Gadjah Mada. During his undergraduate
and graduate study, he received a scholarship for academic excellence from the
Indonesian government. . His working experiences include: - Personal assistant/
interpreter of FAAF, an Australian health consultant firm in Jakarta in 1998
- 2001. - Coordinator of the marketing division at CILACS (Center for International
language and Culture Studies) at UII in 2001. - Teaching English at the CILACS,
UII in 1998-2001.
