Indonesian Media PlacementsSince
the fall of Soeharto's New Order regime, Indonesia's media scene has experienced
an explosion in the number and diversity of media outlets and publications. The
Indonesian capital Jakarta, a thriving metropolis of more than 13 million people,
has in particular experienced a revival of its news media after the strict controls
on press freedom were lifted in 1998.
JPP
program participants are given the opportunity to indicate a preference for which
organisation and industry they would like to work in, however, the final decision
for allocation to news media is undertaken by the Project Officer on a competitive
basis. Placements at foreign news bureaux - ACICIS will only fill these places with very competent and highly motivated students. Anyone wishing a placement will be interviewed by phone by the Project Officer.
In general, placements at the media organisations listed below was very successful. ACICIS anticipates that the majority of these media outlets will again accept interns in 2009. However, the complete list of internship placements will not be available till October.
ACICIS reserves the right to assess the suitability of all participants for acceptance to the JPP. In addition, ACICIS reserves the right to set student quotas for placements in the event of high demand, to change internship placements and arrangements should circumstances require, both before and during the JPP.
