JPP 2009 Details

Dates

Application due date: September 1, 2008
Program start: Saturday, January 3, 2009
Program finish: Saturday, February 14, 2009

Participants should arrive no later than Friday January 2 for a brief orientation and settling in period. Because of the problems of getting seats on aeroplanes during the New Year period, participants are strongly advised to book their flights early. For the JPP 2008 ACICIS managed to get a group booking with Qantas from Sydney to Jakarta (return) for just over half of the participants. We will attempt to do this again for JPP 2009. However, participants must realise that the responsibility to arrange flights belongs to the participant. ACICIS will accept no liability if a participant is unable to arrange flights.

The program is made up of an initial two-week intensive language and cultural course at Atma Jaya University (at 6 days per week until Saturday January 17) followed by a four-week work placement in the Indonesian media, from Monday, January 19 to Friday, February 13.

Tuition Fees

Tuition fee costs vary according to student category, as follows:

A$1500
for member university students
A$2000
for students from non-member universities
A$2500
for private participants not at a recognised tertiary institution
A$4000
commercial rate for participants from a media organisation

Tuition fees may be paid for on behalf of students through the HECS deferred payment scheme at the discretion of individual universities.

Costs

Participants are generally responsible for their own travel, accommodation and living expenses during the program. Advice will be given regarding costs but ultimately this will be up to the student. A breakdown of approximate costs are outlined as below:

Airfares From about A$1000 return from Australia
Most airlines fly direct to Jakarta and there are many budget airlines operating throughout Southeast Asia.
Visa About A$60 for a 60-day Sosial Budaya visa
Cost as set by individual Indonesian Embassies and Consulates. All participants will need to have a valid passport.
Insurance From about A$250 for six weeks
Prices vary with different companies. Students may be covered by their home university's corporate insurance.
Accommodation About A$30 a night
Prices of accommodation in Jakarta vary greatly depending on quality, ranging from A$10 to A$100 a night.
Living Expenses From about A$25 a day
Costs may include food, taxi fares, sight-seeing, socialising and other incidentals. Prices are relatively inexpensive in Indonesia.

All costs are in Australian dollars (A$). ACICIS cannot be held liable if bookings are made and monies lost due to an application not being successful or in the event of program cancellation. Some of the costs such as airfares and insurance may vary; applicants must check prices for themselves. ACICIS reserves the right to alter fee structures without notice.
