Prime Minister's Asia Endeavour Awards

The Prime Minister's Asia Endeavour Awards each year provide 20 postgraduate students and 20 undergraduates awards to some of the best and brightest university students from Australia. Awards are up to $63,500 to undertake an international research, study and internship experience in either China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Republic of Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam.

In the three years that the Prime Minister's Australia Asia Endeavour Awards have been awarded (2010, 2011 and 2012) 55% of recipients going to Indonesia were either alumni of ACICIS, or undertook an ACICIS program as part of their award.

ACICIS Consortium Director Professor David Hill, said:

“The awards are a very clear endorsement of the Australian Consortium for ‘In-Country’ Indonesian Studies (ACICIS), which produces graduates who achieve the highest possible honours in their chosen field of endeavour.”

Australian National University

Australian National University

Jodie Goodman

Murdoch University

Jodie Goodman of the Asia Research Centre was an ACICIS student in 2002 and is currently working on her PhD thesis entitled ’Patterns of participation in local governance and natural resource management in Indonesia – case studies from Nusa Tenggara Barat’. The award will fund a year’s study in Asia during her PhD program. More details.

Wayne Palmer 

University of Sydney

Wayne Palmer studied under ACICIS in 2004. Now a PhD student at the University of Sydney, Wayne will explore the role that the state plays in promoting different illegal practices during the pre-departure phase of Indonesia's formal labour export program. More details.

Brooke Nolan 

University of Western Australia

Brooke Nolan completed her first semester with ACICIS in 2008 and recently graduated with a Bachelor of Asian Studies with Honours from the University of Western Australia. She will study under the auspices of ACICIS again in 2010 as part of her award. Brooke’s research project is entitled ‘Illegal Fishing in Australian Waters: The View from Papela, Pulau Rote’. Jessica Rae

University of Melbourne

Jessica Rae, Law/Commerce student at the University of Melbourne, will study at Gadjah Mada University under ACICIS in 2010. More details.

Nikkola Pickering

Murdoch University

Nikkola Pickering, a Bachelor of International Studies student at Murdoch University will also study at Gadjah Mada University with ACICIS next year as part of her award. More details.

Nina Lim

University of Melbourne

ACICIS will help Nina organise study at an Indonesian institution and an internship placement. Nina is interested in community education in Indonesia. More details.
